Jerry Berry for Coroner
(This is from the electronic version of Demogram, which is published by the Lewis County Democratic Central Committee. Lewis H. Zieske, Jr., Editor.)

Jerry BerryFormer Lewis County Deputy Sheriff Jerry Berry is taking on two Republicans in his race for County coroner. Berry, who has a degree in Physical Education from Feather River University, is a graduate of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. Berry provided the following statement for the Demogram:

I have always had a very strong work ethic and endless energy. I will stand up for the things that I believe in, and will try to right any wrongs that I encounter. I tend to be more concerned with doing the right thing than being politically correct. I have always excelled at any task I chose to undertake, and always give 110%. I have very strong family values that have always been a great source of strength to me. Those values were instilled into me by very loving parents who have always placed their children above all else in this world.

I started my working career as a carpenter, just like my father and uncles. I joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America at the age of 17. I retired from the construction business in 1989 as a Project Manager for S.E.D., Inc., out of Olympia.

I soon realized that I was too young to retire and started looking for something else to do. I was hired by the City of Mossyrock as the Chief of Police, where I remained for 19 months before accepting a position as Deputy Sheriff with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. During my 10 years there, I received numerous mission maker awards, letter of commendations, and high evaluations for my performance. I was selected by American Legion #101 as Law Officer of the year in 2000.

I want to see the Coroner’s Office move into the 21st century, operating with its full potential and being fiscally responsible. I want to see the Coroner’s Office gain the respect and confidence of the citizens so they will know that the death of their loved one was investigated and classified appropriately. No one should have to go through the grief and trauma of having a loved one’s death become the center of public attention and controversy simply because the coroner didn’t do his job right the first time.

I have over 260 hours of specialized training in investigations, having conducted over 20 death investigations in Lewis County. I have the experience, dedication and the knowledge to get the job done.

Too many taxpayer dollars are being spent in areas that are unnecessary, and the citizens are not receiving the full benefits that they are paying for. It is time for the coroner’s Office to provide cost effective and professional services to the citizens of Lewis County.
