At
the annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Chehalis on October 26th, Lewis
County Democratic Central Committee Chair Deanna Zieske announced the
winner of the annual Democrat of the Year award. The award was presented
to our elected County Clerk, the Hon. A.M. “Nettie” Jungers.
The Democrat of the Year award recognizes individuals for the quality of their service, initiative and leadership, impact upon the party and the community, and their dedication to the principles of the Democratic Party.
Nettie has been active in party functions, chairing and helping on the annual auction for four years, on the JJ Dinner for two years, and in virtually all activities of the party. She has participated fully in the activities of the Executive Board and been a loyal PCO while at the same time holding elective public office as County Clerk. Nettie has unselfishly contributed her knowledge, money and moral support to other Democrats who have run for public office.
One of those who nominated Nettie Jungers for this award had this to say:
“Nettie
has been an admirable and delightful role model for all of us who have
had the privilege of working with her on the Central Committee and the
Executive Board. Nettie has contributed far more to the well being of
the Central Committee than we could possibly contribute to the success
of her campaigns for public office. For many years, she has steadily and
generously shared her political know-how, her statewide network of supporters
and colleagues, her organizational skills, countless hours of her time,
her checkbook…and Mike, her husband.
“When we stray from our purpose, Nettie quietly says the right words to get us back on track. If all of us were as clearly focused on our commitment to promoting the Democratic Party in Lewis County, nothing could stop us!”
The process for selecting Democrat of the Year involved receiving nominations from PCOs, Executive Board Members and Democrat elected office holders. The nominations were then screened by a 7-person committee of past Democrats of the Year, current PCOs and current Executive Board members. Nominations were rated by those seven people and the results tabulated to determine the winner.
